PRIVATE COLLECTOR OR INVESTOR WIRE RECORDING June 1947 This will likely be the only opportunity that you will ever have to actually own an item that was personal to Bill W. The items listed on this website that have come from the personal library of Bill W are the only known items held in the private market that can be authenticated as having been owned by Bill W. This item comes directly from Bill W’s personal library and is without question the single rarest item related to Alcoholics Anonymous available anywhere in the world. This rare wire recording was donated by Lois to her friends Bill and Arbutus. Along with this recording you will receive copies of several letters from Lois regarding these “wires”. The reason that this particular item is so rare in comparison to the other items from the Bill Wilson collection listed on this website is because this wire recording is that of A.A.’s other co-founder Dr. Bob Smith and his family. This is the original recording made in the bedroom of Dr. Bob and Anne Smith in the summer of 1947 by George H an early member from Detroit. George had become close friends with Bill W, Dr. Bob and Anne Smith. The voices on the recording are Anne Smith, Dr. Bob, Dr. Bob’s son, Bob Jr. (Smitty) and Betty Smith (wife of Bob Jr.). This is a short recording of the Smiths family, all saying hello to Bill & Lois and declining their invitation to come to Bedford Hills for a visit. They declined the offer because of health issues. This is the only know recording of Anne Smith and one of three known recordings of Dr. Bob. This is also the only know verbal message from Dr. Bob to Bill W. As A.A.’s approaches its 100th anniversary in 2035 any items that can be directly linked to the founders will demand extremely high dollars. These old wires play perfectly and actually produce better sound than any recorded tapes. With is very special recording coming from Dr. Bob and family to Bill and Lois Wilson, it is conceivable that this might likely be valued at $250,000 at some point in the not so distant future. additional pictures upon request
